“You can’t spell fundamentals without F-U-N!” said Scott Davenport as he prepares for his 42nd consecutive summer of teaching youngsters the game he loves.

And that’s exactly what your child will get if they sign up for Bellarmine sports camps: a whole lot of fundamentals, fun, passion and love for the sport.

Several camps are available this summer including Baseball, Basketball for girls and boys, Field Hockey, Soccer for girls and boys, Softball and Volleyball.

“Kids come in on Monday a little afraid, maybe a little intimidated, but by the end of the week these 7 to 13 year olds are making new friends and showing confidence in their skills,” said Davenport.

All information on dates, times and pricing for all of the Bellarmine camps can be found at www.BUKNIGHTS.com and click on the “Inside Athletics” link for information about all of the sports camps offered by the Bellarmine coaching staffs.

Prices for the various camps vary and please check the website for more information.

While discussing the upcoming camp season, Davenport mentioned that his players—who serve as camp counselors, instructors and coaches—figured that the coach has mentored approximated 40,000 campers in his 42 years.

“Each camper gets lunch every day, Monday through Friday, they get a tee-shirt and a basketball,” Davenport said. “If they wear it out before the next summer, they can come back here and get a new one.”

Boy’s camps will be held the weeks of June 10, June 17, July 8, July 22 and July 29 from 8:30 am to 4 pm.

Bellarmine women’s head coach Chancellor Dugan and her staff will hold separate camp times for 1st through 4th grade girls and girls who are in the 5th through 8th grades.

Grades 1st through 4th will attend camp from 9:00 am — Noon while the 5th through 8th grade girls will have a full day of camp from 9:00 am — 4:00 pm. Camp pricing for grades 1st through 4th is $100 and that includes a tee-shirt and a basketball; the all-camp will be $225 and include lunch, a tee-shirt and a basketball.

Dates for the girl’s camps are: June 24-27, July 15-18 and August 5-8. Discounts are available for girls attending more than one week of camp or if there is more than one girl from a family attending.

Davenport said he has two rules for his players who act as coaches and counselors: “One, everyone works together; and two, no kid gets discouraged.”

When asked about one of the biggest success stories from coaching the thousands of kids he’s encountered in camps Davenport immediately said, “Lil’ Mike Parrish. Hands down. To go from camper, to a pretty good high school player, to an improbable walk-on here at Bellarmine, to earning a scholarship to play for Bellarmine…man, that’s special.”
